It’s East coast versus West coast in a hair battle royale!

On one side of the country, proving that long hair is never “short” on style options: the faux bob. On the other, a classic ‘do that always makes a comeback: tousled, beach-inspired waves.

Grab your brush and get ready for a face-off! Vanessa Ungaro of Warren-Tricomi Salon gives GalTime the scoop on how to create these two trends. Check out her tips...and then crown your champion!

What is a faux-bob? A faux bob is when you roll the ends of your hair under and secure it at the nape of the neck.

Why is it so popular on the west coast? It's popular because it creates the illusion of a bob, without having to sacrifice the length.

How can our readers create the look? Apply a thickening spray (Try: L'Oreal Professionnel Densite Thickening Primer) to damp hair. Blow dry with fingers, or use a round brush. Next, apply a sculpting paste (Try: L'Oreal Professionnel Sculpt Paste) to create texture. Tuck the ends of your hair at the nape of your neck and secure with bobby pins. Finally, finish with hairspray. Combining these three types of products gives you volume, texture and hold.

On the east coast, what is the most requested style at Warren-Tricomi Salon? Why? Clients usually request loose, beachy waves with moderate volume at the roots. Hair is usually parted in the center. This look is great because it's very sexy and natural looking. Also, you can create this look on any hair length.

How can our readers create this look? Apply a thickening spray from roots to ends and comb through. Dry your hair with a round brush, or you can use your fingers. Spray with hairspray (Try: L'Oreal Professionnel Infinium 3 Hairspray). Take small sections of the hair and wrap them around a one-inch curling iron, directing the hair away from the face.
