2011's Trendiest Sunglasses | Beauty

2011's Trendiest Sunglasses
2011's Trendiest Sunglasses

Summertime is looking bright, especially with the right pair of sunglasses! We spy everything from round, “Lennon” inspired specs to large, drama queen worthy frames. Eden Wexler of Solstice Sunglass Boutique, AKA the Shades Consultant to the Stars, fills us in on this season’s “eyemazing” trends.

Oh So Retro: Look for sunglasses with a vintage vibe. Channel the 40s, 50s, and 60s with excessively round frames, key hole bridges and cat’s eye silhouettes in all shapes and sizes.

Betsey Johnson Cat Eye Sunglasses $55

The Shield: Go back to the future with the “shield,” a single continuous lens across the eyes. Popular a decade ago, Wexler says it’s making a comeback! Some versions are metal rimmed, others are rimless, but all of them are fashion forward!

Marc By Marc Jacobs 028/N/S, $98

Preppy Chic: Take a page from The Preppy Handbook. Pair that collegiate cardigan or varsity jacket with a pair of All-American tear-drop aviators or colorful, plastic wayfarers. These classic styles are fashion investment pieces.

Ray-Ban RB2132 55, $169.95

It’s All In The Details: Add some jewelry to your eyes while you’re soaking up the sun. Look for loud animal prints and the use of innovative materials like leather, wood, or rubber. Wexler says many fashion houses are even introducing iconic patterns on frame fronts and temples. Examples include braided metals (Bottega Veneta), diamonding effects (Giorgio Armani), glitter accents (Marc Jacobs) and cannage patterns (Dior).

Kate Spade Lauralee, $148

Color Me Beautiful: Easy to wear-neutrals, like tortoise, black, taupe and white/clear are clean cut, timeless, and go with everything! Flesh toned shades are fabulous and feminine, and garden vegetable hues are growing in popularity. Stuff your face with colors like pumpkin, eggplant, zucchini, and squash.

Juicy Couture Flawless,  $120

Through The Looking Glass: Mirrored lenses are back with a vengeance. For a luxurious twist, slip on a pair with a hint of silver or gold. Looking to stay ahead of the curve? Wexler says that Carrera’s new, blue-mirrored lenses will soon be all the rage. Gradient lenses, which are darker at the top and fade towards the bottom, are also crowd pleasers.

Carrera 1/B/S, $160
