Looking to make a style splash? Try a chic fishtail braid a la Leona Lewis, Vanessa Hudgens, Rihanna, Diane Kruger, and other trendy starlets. Candice Buckett, owner of Diesel Salon in San Diego, shows us how to create a braid that’s anything but blah!

  1. Split hair into two equal sized sections. Hold one section in the right hand, and the other in the left hand. (TIP: For a tighter braid, try the style on your ponytail. For a loose, bohemian look, start from the crown.)
  2. Take a small piece from the OUTSIDE of the right section and bring it to the INSIDE of the left section.
  3. Take a small piece from the OUTSIDE of the left section and bring it to the INSIDE of the right section.
  4. Continue steps 2 and 3 until you reach the ends. Make sure the sections you pull from each side are the same size.

Want to set yourself apart from other fishtails in the sea? Try a side-swept braid. Wrap into a small bun and pin into place under you ear. You can also create a “headband” with your fishtail braid, or make it go across your forehead like a "swoop" bang. Style the rest of your hair as usual.
