Recently, my husband and I took a night off from "Parker’s World” (he's our 8 month old son), and saw My Week With Marilyn. In between being mesmerized by Michelle Williams' portrayal of the blonde bombshell, I was drooling over the fashion, the makeup...even the furniture! I left the theater wanting to put on gobs of red lipstick, some cat eye sunglasses, and maybe even a pair of long, white gloves for good measure.
I’m not the only gal going gaga for old school Hollywood glamour. Between Marilyn Monroe mania, a new book on style icon Jackie O, and the 50th anniversary of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, a slew of designers and beauty brands are feeding into the frenzy. Here are some options to channel your inner drama queen. (Paparazzi, eat your heart out!)
Beauty: Fiery red lips, winged liner, perfect brows, Hollywood-siren-like-waves, and a dab of a classic fragrance all make for a glamourous look. I picture products like these sitting on a chic vanity. (But for now, my bathroom will do just fine!)

L’Oreal Infallible Le Rouge in Ravishing Red, $9.99

Chanel No. 5 Perfume, $64

Conair Instant Heat Compact Hot Rollers, $15.99

ybf Automatic Eyebrow Pencil Duo, $20

Erno Laszlo pHormula 3-9, $195 (This was a Marilyn Monroe fave!)

Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Liner, $20
Accessories: Marilyn Monroe had it right. Diamonds (real or fake) are a girl’s best friend. A lady-like clutch is perfect for your nighttime essentials, and for everyday, try a pair of modern, cat eye shades. Picture what you would wear to a Hollywood premiere, or a party with the President....only you don’t need to max out your credit card to look like a million bucks!

Forever 21 Rows of Rhinestones Ring, $3.80

Judith Ripka Sterling Fleur de Lis Openwork Hinged Cuff, $369

Kendra Scott Trista Chandelier Earrings in Crystal, $110.00

Banana Republic Ice Princess Necklace, $69.50, available in store

Ralph Lauren RL8076, $160

Clothing: Haute designers, like Jason Wu, are debuting new collections with black cocktail dresses that are “classic Audrey.” Check out this sketch from his Target collection, which is set to launch in February. (I know...we can hardly wait for the real thing, either!)

In the meantime, search your favorite store for fitted pencil skirts, floor sweeping maxi dresses, unique shapes (like peplum), high-waisted pants, classic cardigans, tailored ankle pants, a big-button peacoat (a la Jackie O), a faux-fur jacket, floral patterns, and polka-dots...just to name a few!

Anthropologie Rodna Halter Dress, $158

ASOS Tailored Belted Ponti Pencil Skirt, $50.90

ModCloth Walk Away With Bronze Dress, $167.99

BCBG Reeve Sequined Dress, $468

Forever 21 Basic Cardigan, $11.50

Home: At the end of the day, lay your fabulous self across a 50s or 60s inspired sofa, like this one from La-Z-Boy. Or, sit back and sip on a cocktail...anything with champagne will do! Try the recipe for a "Lavolini" below. It’s a favorite of celebs like Kim Kardashian and Cameron Diaz.
