Kiss dry lips and feathering color goodbye! There’s an art to achieving pout perfection! Celebrity makeup artists Kenecia LaShae and Amy Elizabeth give GalTime the scoop on getting your lipstick to stay put.
-
For a smooth and kissable pout, kick things off with a lip scrub. LaShae says it’s a great way to banish dead skin cells. Next, treat your lips with a lip balm or cream. Elizabeth says this will prime and prep the area. Put the rest of your makeup on, then blot any excess. (Try: Fresh Brown Sugar Lip Polish, $22, Elizabeth Arden Advanced Lip-Fix Cream, $21.50, or Burt's Bees Ultra Conditioning Natural Lip Balm, $3.99.)

-
Lightly line and fill in your lips with a soft lip liner. Look for one that either matches your lipstick, or is similar to your natural lip color. If you’re going for a more “natural” look, Elizabeth recommends skipping the liner. A sheer lipstick or lip shine is all you need to get glowing! (Try: Make Up For Ever’s Aqua Lip Waterproof Lipliner Pencil in 14C, $18, or Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella, $24.)

Using a lip brush, apply one thin layer of lipstick. Blot and apply a second coat. To lock in color, LaShae recommends dusting translucent powder on top. (Try: Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Ultra Lipstick in Mulberry, $22.50. For a soft tint, GalTime hearts L'Oreal Colour Riche Balm, $7.95)

-
To help plump things up, add a dab of gloss to the center of your lips and blend. Elizabeth says clear gloss is a must this season. It keeps your lipstick true to color while adding mirror shine. Don’t forget to highlight your Cupid’s Bow! (Try: Bobbi Brown Crystal Lip Gloss, $17. If your lips are small and need a little extra plumping, Elizabeth recommends a gloss with a pearlized finish, like Nars Lip Gloss in Stolen Kisses, $24).

Finally, erase “mistakes” and add definition by “reverse lining” your lips. Using a concealer brush, apply foundation around the outside of your pucker. Use whatever you have in your makeup bag!
