I love Fall. (Being from New England, it’s only natural!) The crisp air. The colorful leaves. Apple picking. Here’s what I don’t love: The end of summer skincare blues. And I have them….bad. Dry patches. A fading tan. Leftover lines from that last, horrible sunburn. It’s a 9-1-1 skin situation.
Thankfully, Nicole Vitale, senior director of The Spa @ Equinox, is here to help. Check out her tips for an endless season of glowing skin, even as the weather changes.
Change is good:
You wouldn’t wear shorts in the winter, would you? Just like our wardrobe changes each season, Nicole says it’s important to switch up your skincare regimen. If oil is your issue, you may need to switch to a heavier moisturizer. Nicole recommends Skinceuticals Daily Moisture. If dry, flaky skin has got you down, look for a moisture binding lotion, like Skinceuticals Emollience. Consider visiting a skincare professional to find a skincare plan that works best for you. Stick with that routine in the AM and PM.
First Aid Kit:
After laying out at the beach and the pool (and suffering the occasional burn), it’s important to repair, repair, repair! Nicole says, hydration is key. Also, find a yummy scrub and start exfoliating! Do this twice a week for soothed and smoothed skin. If you can, try to hit up the spa for regular facials. You can even try a peel! Nicole’s favorites are pumpkin enzyme and glycolic peels. She says they can be your best friends come Fall!
Get Your Eight Glasses:
Because the cold air ushers in dry skin, it’s important to stay hydrated. Never underestimate the power of six to eight glasses of water a day. Not a huge fan of H20? (I’m a Diet Coke girl, myself!) Nicole recommends fresh squeezed juice.
Stick With SPF:
Summer may be over, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to shelf your SPF. Nicole says you should layer it on year-round. One of her favorites is Skinceuticals SPF 50. Not only does it provide superior protection, it is light weight and dries completely sheer. Also, keep your eyes peeled when you hit the makeup counter. These days, things like lip balm, foundation and powders come with sun protection built right in.
Mash Up A Mask:
For an added boost, harness the power of what’s in your kitchen! Nicole says, the secret to firm skin is bananas! Take a very ripe one, add just enough honey to make a soft pulp, and apply over face and hair. Let set for 10 to 15, then rinse off with warm water. You can also try plain egg yolks…an old standby!
Hyaluronic Help:
One of Nicole’s favorite ways to give tired skin a boost is to get a product with hyaluronic acid, which helps lubricate and plump the skin. One of her top product picks is Lather’s Moisture Magnet. She says it will give your skin a youthful glow.
