The Beauty Gal Review: L'Oreal Youth Code B.B. Cream Illuminator
The Beauty Gal Review: L'Oreal Youth Code B.B. Cream Illuminator

For what seems like forever (in the beauty world, at least!) Garnier had the drugstore beauty balm market cornered. Now, iconic brands like Maybelline and L’Oreal are whipping up their own versions to give us beauty junkies a few more options!

I was fortunate enough to be sent a sample of L’Oreal Youth Code B.B. Cream Illuminator, which comes in two shades: light and medium.

The beauty of BB cream is that each one has it’s own unique properties. This particular potion promises to combine the anti-aging benefits that the Youth Code line is known for, while brightening, moisturizing, and evening out skin tone.

The consistency of this cream can seem a tad thick at first, but don’t be fooled! A little goes a long way and spreads fairly easily on your skin, without leaving any telltale makeup lines. (I made the mistake of squeezing too much out at first, and ended up with product smeared all over my hands!)

The formula is hydrating with a dewy finish, while providing light coverage that’s perfect for summer. It doesn’t have sparkle or shimmer, but light reflecting particles that give off a subtle glow.

Because my skin is uber dry, I mix a bit with a drop of my daily moisturizer. It sort of defeats the purpose of a beauty balm, which is technically supposed to be an all-in-one product, but I enjoy the sheer coverage enough that I don't mind the extra step! (An extra dose of hydration never hurt, right?)

I can’t say definitively that the tone and texture of my skin was improved over time, although it did even things out until I washed my face at night. Plus, it hasn’t caused me to break out and doesn’t cake or crease by day’s end.

The one thing that I’m a bit disappointed about is that this product only has an SPF of 15. I recommend applying additional sunscreen underneath if you tend to burn easily or have sensitive skin.

Find L’Oreal Youth Code B.B. Cream Illuminator for $16.99 wherever L’Oreal products are sold.
