Here's something to smile about...if you were lucky enough to be born with a plump pout! A new study shows fuller, firmer lips make a woman look younger than she really is ...even if her face has wrinkles and her hair isn't as strong and healthy as it used to be.
The study, funded by Unilever, analyzed 162 British women (45 to 75 years old) and 102 pairs of Dutch twins (59 to 81 year old). It found that wrinkles, sun damage and age spots were affected by both genetic and environmental factors, while “lip height” was determined by genes (as was greying hair and a receeding hairline).
“When we identified people who looked young for their age, we were struck by the difference in their lips,” said David Gunn, a research scientist at Unilever who is quoted in the Times Online/UK.
Researchers said full-lip volume is reached in young adulthood and lips begin to shrink between 30 and 40 years of age, making people look older.
But according to Gunn, cosmetic procedures may not be the answer. Apparently, it's the naturalness that works to fool Father Time. Since I wasn't blessed with the 'lip gene', I say thank goodness for those lip plumping lipsticks that are on the market now!
