It's not quite time to put away those summer clothes yet, but it is time to start thinking fall wardrobe. Wondering what trends you should add to your closet in 2010?
1. Military Inspired – Yes, military inspired fashion is still trendy. However, like most trends it has evolved and changed. Instead of very obvious military inspired looks, designers are getting inspiration from fabrics like shearling and colors like army green and navy. The must have item is a military coat or jacket. Thankfully, this is a practical item you can pair with other basics. You will also see more subtle undertones. Look for embellishments on aviator boots or other accessories, like Ben-Amun’s military inspired pin collection.

2. Brown Is Back – Olcay Gulsen, creative director for Super Trash, says “Fall will bring a big shift in colors and silhouettes. For fall colors, you will see a combination of desert and ocean shades combined with winter nudes. Brown is finally back and has completely crushed grey. My guess is that all brown colors like caramel, camel, taupe and darks will be huge.” I am looking forward to this fresh fall palette.
3. Capes – For outwear, the “it” items are capes, cloaks, and capelettes. Various wraps, particularly in fur, will also be huge.

4. Over The Knee Boots – Since many of fall’s silhouettes are classic, Over The Knee Boots will give these looks attitude. Suede is likely to be the most popular material followed by leather. You can go with traditional black or brown but grays, olives, and neutrals are also on trend. For a more economically friendly way to stay on trend, try some knee high socks, which will also be popular for the season.

5. Leather – Look for leather in everything from jumpsuits to boots to jackets, skirts and pants. It’s the most important material being used for fall. This smokin’ “Downtown” leather dress by SuperTrash is a perfect example of how designers are using leather for the upcoming season.

6. Turtlenecks – Shockingly, designers have found ways to make turtlenecks sexy. We saw a lot of very cropped turtlenecks on the runway. This could be great for a layered look without all the bulk, but if you are game there are a multitude of new ways to wear a turtleneck. Try a cropped turtleneck under a dress or over another shirt.

7. Patchwork – Patchwork was present in a lot of fashion shows, however these looks were modern and edgy versus homemade-like.
8. Still popular from Spring are the Sheer and Cut Out trends.
9. Jewelry – Bold is in. Large necklaces, sweeping earrings, big bracelets, and artwork rings will be seen leading the way. Helena Krodel of Jewelers Of America states that, “Layers of chains or pearls that wrap the wrist, dangle casually, and even fall partially on the hand will be popular.” For this look, we love the Crystal Cuff by Annie Hammer. As for rings she says, “Multi-finger rings are gaining ground as well. A look synonymous with the 1980s, modern multi-finger rings look much less rock-and- roll and are more architecturally inspired. Rings with seriously striking edges made bold statements on several runways.”

10. Footwear – Shoes, always a girls best friend, are mimicking many of the other trends. Military inspiration, studs, and metal are all at the forefront of fashion. The Uri heel by Klub Nico features cut-outs we are seeing in apparel as well.
