Loud neon hues are on the style scene this Spring! From headbands to footwear (and everything in between), I'm already making space for these pops of color in my closet! Celebrity stylist Colin McDonald gives GalTime the scoop on how to electrify your wardrobe.
Hot and cold! When choosing the “right” neon for you, skin tone can play a part! McDonald says that dark skin tones work well with cobalt blues, coral reds, and lemony yellows, while lighter skin tones can be complimented with aquas, cherry reds, and peachy shades of pink and orange.
Heating up! The hottest way to wear neon colors is to let them truly stand out. If you want to dip your toe in the rend, but are worried you might “overdo it,” start off by incorporating a statement accessory into your outfit. McDonald recommends adding a neon shoe, bag, piece of jewelry, or even lipstick, into a neutral outfit (Think: dark skinny jeans, a white top, a nude blazer, and a saturated teal handbag!) This look can be great for daytime, nighttime, or even work!

Getting warmer! Ready to get a little wilder? Another great way to try out the neon trend is by color blocking. Pair a bright orange top with a bold aqua scarf, or throw on a pair of vivid skinny jeans with an attention-grabbing yellow top. To really pull off the look, McDonald says it's important to go for solid, color-blocked pieces, rather than patterns.

Don’t burn out! Keep those neon brights working well into summer by purchasing a few basic threads or accessories that are multi-season staples. One of my favorites is a hot pink v-neck tee – I wear it in the spring under a sweater and in the summer with white shorts! Or, scoop up an eye-popping eyeshadow, lipstick, or blush. Neon brights are a great way to express yourself!
