Your Go-To Bag Guide For Work, Travel and More!
Your Go-To Bag Guide For Work, Travel and More!

Shopping for a bag can be totally overwhelming - we all have our purse-onal list of requirements! Thanks to Regina Gardiner, People StyleWatch Accessories Editor, your never-ending search for the perfect carry-all just got a whole lot easier!

A Work Bag that Works: Make sure your office tote has pockets and/or compartments to keep you organized on-the-go, and enough room to fit all of your daily items. Also, try for a more structured, polished shape in a neutral color. Because you’ll be using it every day, this is the bag to invest in! Look for quality stitching and workmanship, as well as a durable material.

A Wallet for the Weekend: A clutch with a detachable strap is great for going out because you have the option to wear it over your shoulder. Make sure it fits your phone, lipstick, money and credit cards, or else you’ll be totally frustrated! Though box-shaped and envelope clutches are totally in, beware - they don’t hold much. Instead, buy something in a flexible material, like leather or satin, so you can fit everything! You can take more risks with this bag, so try out a fun color or trendy embellishment!

A Travel Bag for Trips: Look for something that has a longer, detachable strap so that you can wear it over the shoulder or across your body - you won’t have to worry about holding it! If you’re looking for a carry-on size, find a duffel bag with wheels. And remember: toting a weekend purse shouldn’t be a workout! Whether you’re traveling by train, plane, or automobile, durable materials are a must.

Tips for Your Tote: After your purchase, spray your bag with stain and water repellent. Make sure to store your purse in its dust bag, stuff it with acid free tissue, and keep it standing on a shelf. Hanging it up on a hook can stretch and deform the handles, so be careful! If your purse is leather, give it some love by bringing it to a repair shop. A professional can polish, oil, and buff your bag so it’s in tip-top shape! If your suede bag is looking down, don’t worry! It can be dyed and steamed, as well.
