Brow Power in Boston
Brow Power in Boston

What is the secret to pulling off that crave-worthy, beautifully polished look?  The Gals at Sarra Studios will tell you-- your BROWS!!!  It’s really that simple.  (And what better time than summer to keep it simple?!)  After all, those Gals would know-- Sarra Studios in South Boston and Hingham have a long history of “cleaning up” in the Brow department, winning Best of Boston Brows from multiple publications year after year. Sadie Sham, a vetted brow and make-up artist at Sarra, shares with us her philosophy, tips and experience behind the brow.

Anna: What defines a great brow?

Sadie: Symmetry, density, and a shape that follows the natural brow bone. At Sarra, there is no cookie-cutter shape -- each client is different and what's perfect for one person will be vastly different than what is perfect for another.

Anna: As a talented make-up artist, what has your experience taught you about women and their brows?

Sadie: I have learned that brows change people for the better. When our clients leave with their perfect brows, they gain confidence.

Great brows are like a pop of red lipstick-- they immediately brighten your face and give you that put-together, pick-me-up look.

Anna: Advantages to plucking over waxing or threading?

Sadie: It is almost inevitable that waxing or threading will take more hair than it should because these methods remove several hairs at a time. We diligently remove one brow hair at a time and each hair is taken for a specific purpose to perfect the overall shape.

Anna: What can be done to help a woman who has over plucked for years?  Products?

Sadie: Many clients who come to Sarra have been over waxed/threaded/plucked for years. Our goal at Sarra is to have them looking fuller through the shaping and filling at least until the hair grows back in. Achieving the perfect brow can be quite a process and it is our goal is to show our clients what the future holds and get them there.

Anna: What, if anything, can we do ourselves for upkeep between visits?  What ABSOLUTELY should be left to the expert?

Sadie: We ask our clients to do the impossible- not touch between visits! The only area deemed safe to tweeze is within the eye crease. Anything close to the brow should be left to us.

Anna: What are the essential tools/products every girl should keep close at hand to stay polished (pencil, gel....)?

Sadie: We strongly believe in the power of a great brow pencil in just the right shade and a clear brow gel that organizes the hairs and ultimately sets them into place.

Anna: How should a Gal prepare for her first Sarra visit?

Sadie: A Gal should relax! There is much anxiety surrounding brow shaping, especially for clients who have had bad experiences in the past. We are very aware of these fears and we do our best to explain the process before we even pick up the tweezers. We are here to educate, execute and ultimately transform each individual brow.

So Gals…shelf the heavy products this season and see for yourself what the buzz is all about.  Your foundation to knocking socks off this summer is a brow pencil and gel, following a visit to Sarra!
