Boston Goes International for Spring | Beauty

Boston Goes International for Spring
Boston Goes International for Spring

GALS, the clock is ticking!  Need an extra shot of affordable fashion in your Spring line-up?  Well, if you haven’t already heard… Target just launched the much-anticipated GO International Designer Collective running March 13th through April 10th at select Target stores and on Target.com.  And yes, of-COURSE I was one of hundreds of Boston women that went RUNNING out to Watertown opening day to “be the first” to see what Spring has in-store for us thrifty, brand-conscious fashionistas’.  Target still proves to be on a winning streak!

The Limited Edition Collection features 34 dresses from 17 designers over the past 5 years including some of my favorites like Alice Temperley, Behnaz Sarafpour, Jovovich-Hawk, Libertine, Rodarte, Rogan, Tara Jarmon, Thakoon, Tucker, and Zac Posen among others.  Target is among other main-stream stores like Kohls, H&M, and Top Shop that have invited celebrity designers to give the All-American Gal some red-carpet cuts on a “girl-next-door” budget.  Thanks Target!

Celebs like Natalie Portman, Rachel Bilson, Kate Bosworth, and Nicky Hilton have been seen Rockin’ some of these frocks at high-end events.  As you peruse the racks, have fun imagining how you would accessorize these mainstream pieces.  This is the perfect opportunity to play around with mixing high and low fashion to create your own great look!  Here are some of my personal favorites:

Thakoon:

I love this Color-Block shift- something we are seeing a lot of this season on the runway.  The cut was surprisingly flattering, much more tailored around the bust and rear than I expected by how loose it hung on the rack.  I immediately began to fantasize about this little piece of Thakoon thrown over a Bikini and paired with Havaianas, a Panama hat from Goorin Bros. and a gold necklace…HELLO SUMMER BBQ!

Jovovich-Hawk:

I LOVE Polka-Dots!  Typically, I steer away from parachute lines, but the sheer sleeves show off upper arm efforts from the gym and the detailing at the bottom make me feel like I am headed to lunch with Kim and Kourtney! Just pair this with some dark colored tights and shoe booties or, keep the legs bare and toss on some distressed brown leather boots!

Tucker:

Tucker is one of my favorite lines and they have three great dresses featured now at Target.  This dress is a great blend of Spring’s floral trend and the blousy “shirt dress.”  The colors in the flower motif make it a fun piece to play up across Seasons by changing up cardigans, blazors, tights, or leggings and you can easily toughen this piece up with a heavy belt.  How cute would this be bare-legged with a  nude pump and a classic trench Comme la Francaise!?

Rogan:

Hello Edgy Girlfriend!  Throw this on with some aggressive heels or a mean little shoe bootie, and, don’t forget your black leather jacket if you catch a chill… this shift has Summer-Cool-Gal written all over it! I love the black jersey detailing…just pay attention to what you wear underneath as it is on the shear side!

Zac Posen:

Hey Zac- You are ever the crowd pleaser!  This dress is one of his Classic lines. The pink is perfect for Spring and Summer and the sleeve and collar detailing give the dress a great feminine edge. Love it!

Just a tip… if you can sneak away from the kids or work, head over mid-day, on a weekday to give yourself a little sanity among the racks.  “Opening Day” was a close comparison to one of our other favorite “competitive events” - the Running of the Brides. I went so far as to station my 6’3” husband to guard my cart while I ran into the dressing room to try on my picks!  Apparently, we will go to some pretty lengthy measures to score a $34 limited edition Zac Posen.  Grab your rainy day money and good luck!
