Some people have them visible for the world to see and others hide them in places that they can only see, but whatever the reason and wherever they are, tattoos are one way to make a permanent statement. Also known as “body art,” this ancient form of self expression (or marking of property in some cases) can be beautiful and a pleasant experience if you find the right place.
If you have decided to get yourself a tattoo, take yourself over to Clearwater in Kennewick and talk to one of the very knowledgeable and kind artists at Freebirds Body Art. Back in my “crazy days” of college, I got a tattoo on my hip with a 3 of my close friends. We drove to Moscow, Idaho and marked ourselves with a sorority symbol feeling brave, adult and maybe a bit hung over. It is smaller than a quarter but I felt like I was going to throw up. After I was done getting branded, ran to the pay phone (whoa! Remember those? Dating myself.) and called my mom. Wow, I was so grown up, a tattoo and crying to my mother over the phone. 10 years later I found myself crying to my mom in a tattoo chair again, but this time she got her matching tattoo before me! On a good recommendation we went to Freebirds Tattoo and got matching bunnies on our feet in memory of my Grandma who had passed away the month before. The artist was a beautiful pregnant woman who cared for us and talked us through the whole process. She took our artwork and perfected it so it was exactly the way we wanted it and then carefully got us into a dentist-like chair and started her art work. She was quick and professional and did not judge when I started to cry out of pain (yes, I just gave birth 6 months earlier, but this was different. No epidural). After the tattoo was complete, she bandaged us up, told us how to care for our matching bunnies and sent us on our way.

The whole experience was memorable and special. It was clean, private and brightly lit. There wasn’t smoke billowing out of the doorway, bikers winking at you as you took your seat or any of the other stereo-typical myths taking place. All the tattoos are correctly spelled, as well. If you are thinking about getting a tattoo for the first time and feel a little unsure about the whole situation, just go check the place out. Or if this is your 9th, you'll want someone who is a true artist. The staff and artists are very friendly, will answer any and all your questions and may even interest you in a piercing as well. No matter what the design or reason why, a tattoo from Freebirds is the best permanent decision you can make.
