It’s August 8th 2011, and I just received the email I have been patiently waiting a whole month for. My Birchbox has shipped. I gleefully open the email fully knowing what it says, but reading on non-the-less to confirm its departure from headquarters. Now the waiting process begins as my box makes its way through the mail system to my front door. I ponder what its contents are this month. Maybe a new lip-gloss, or perhaps a shade of eye shadow that will change the way I think about the color purple. The possibilities of this month’s Birchbox are endless…
The concept of Birchbox is simple, for $10 a month you get a box filled with deluxe samples and almost always one full-sized product. The products range from high end perfume from companies such as Bulagri to edible treats from Kind Health Bars. The beauty (no pun intended) is that you never know what you get until the box arrives on your doorstep. After taking the time to sample the products you can choose to buy the full sized versions at a discount on the Birchbox website, or simply hoard the remainder for your next vacation. Co-creators Hayley Barna and Katia Beauchamp created Birchbox to’ help women cut through the clutter of the beauty world to find products that really work for them.’ These two brilliant Harvard graduates saw a need in the community and ran with it. We thank you.
