Maybe this is not the first time you’ve heard this but I feel compelled to let you Denver ladies know: gold and silver are now friends. Back in the day (I don’t know which day, it just sounded good), women wouldn’t be caught dead in mismatched jewelry. Wearing gold with silver was an enormous fashion faux pas. Well, the rules have changed and now designers across the world have embraced detailing their silver pieces with gold or embellishing their gold creations with silver. It is also acceptable to layer more than one necklace or bracelet with both silver and gold somewhere in the mix. I must warn you, however, you’ve got to do this mixing and matching right, or else!* Here are some tips to help you accept and implement this new and wonderful discovery in the world of jewelry (also it will help stave off the fashion police!):
- Don’t mismatch more than one material in the jewelry: If you mix your metals in your necklace, wear understated earrings (or no earrings at all) that match one of the metals in the necklace. In other words, keep the focus on the necklace and downplay the earrings. If you wore a necklace with silver and gold and then some earrings with silver and rubies…uh- oh I hear the sirens ringing!
- Simple is safest: If you decide to wear 3 necklaces that fall nicely together and have a good balance in the metals, then no need to wear more than one bracelet. If you love the look of mixed metals layered in bangles on your wrist--wear some nice gold hoops to tie it all together--leave the necklaces behind! If you’re a beginner at mixing, matching and layering then start out with a simple necklace that has both metals, pair it with some silver studs and you’re good to go!
