This Fall, I’m really into tights, and am putting them on as many clients as possible. Tights keep things sexy and fashion-forward, without weighing you down. Don't get me wrong, leggings are great, but tights are personally where my style has been lately.
When choosing tights, it’s important to make sure that your legwear is age appropriate. Not all women can wear every style or color, and you want to make sure you are presenting your best self possible. Here are my recommendations for pulling off tights at every age:
Teens: As a teen in tights, you have so many options with color and thickness. You can go bold without looking too crazy. Consider this a luxury for your age group and have fun with it!
Twenty-Somethings: Options for wide-eyed twenty-something are also varied. You can go classic with black, or choose shapes, circles or stripes. The key to wearing patterned tights is to make sure that they complement your outfit, and that they aren't distracting. For instance, if you have on a loud winter floral, the last thing you want to do is wear ‘loud’ tights. My favorites for this season are polka tights, as well as basic black.
Flirty Thirties: You’re basically at a prime age to keep things very "runway." Grey, black, and nude shades blend well with patterns like houndstooth, lace, and diamonds. Pair them with booties, boots, pointed toes, wedges, mary janes, and flats. The trick is to let the color and the detail in your outfit be the focus, with your tights being the icing on the cake. I tend to keep my thirty-something clients away from loud colors. Sometimes, they make it look like you're trying too hard.
Forty Plus and Chic: My advice is to stick with a basic pair of tights. They are sophisticated and demonstrate an era of wisdom, leading you to a clean, yet classic look.
