Thigh Highs: Wear Them At Any Age! | Beauty

Thigh Highs: Wear Them At Any Age!
Thigh Highs: Wear Them At Any Age!

Thigh high hosiery is having its moment in the fashion spotlight!

I know what you’re thinking. Thigh highs belong in the bedroom! I can't pull them off in the real world! I'm too old to wear them! Style expert Jenny Altman of ILOVEAGOOD.com says these are common misconceptions, and any gal can get leggy with the trend.

The key is to think of thigh highs as another hosiery option and not as sexy lingerie! Petite women can trade in those tights that seem to go up to their armpits. Tall women can forget constantly pulling up their pantyhose. And for pregnant women, thigh-highs can be a dream because they don't cover the tummy!

Thigh highs can be worn with any outfit you'd wear tights with, but its important to style them age-appropriately. Here's how:

Teens and TwentiesGive your legs the attention they deserve! Don’t be afraid to show off those thigh highs by pairing them with a short pleated skirt, a great pair of shorts, or even a dress. For those who want a bolder look, try thigh highs in a bright color, or even a striking pattern!

Flirty Thirties and Beyond: Thigh highs aren’t just for 20-somethings! If you're 30 or beyond, pair over-the-knee options with more demure pieces so you aren't showing as much leg. Think pencil skirts at the office, and formal wear at special events. (They'll simply look like regular tights!) And don't forget date night! Thigh highs are a great way to give your honey a little surprise.

If you're still "iffy" about the trend, look into faux stay-ups. Altman says they're a fab 2-in-1: Practical, opaque tights by day, sexy suspender tights by night. Plus, they go all the way up, so you never feel completely bare.

Take your Thigh Highs to New Heights: Thigh highs comes in a variety of different styles. It's up to you to pick which one suits your personality best. Just make sure they have enough strength to stay put comfortably withought digging into your legs. Altman says good qualty thigh highs should never feel like they're falling down!

Traditional: Traditional thigh highs in a black, opaque, sheer, or knit are a wardrobe staple. These pieces can easily be paired with any outfit.

When it comes to shoes, you can never go wrong with matching your hosiery to your footwear. This is a classic look that instantly elongates your legs. If you want to break outside the box, try pairing bold colored thigh highs with a dark shoe, or even open-toed shoes, as long as the style you choose is seamless.
