Heart Walk
More than 10,000 Jacksonville area residents are expected to take steps to improve their heart health on Saturday, when they participate in the American Heart Association’s annual Heart Walk at Metropolitan Park. The goal of the Heart Walk is to attract thousands of community members to celebrate improving their heart health and supporting needed cardiovascular health and stroke research, the No. 1 and No. 3 health threats, respectively, to American men and women. Jacksonville Symphony: Gershwhin Piano Concert
This Friday from 8pm till 12am, check out the Jacksonville Symphony: Gershwhin Piano Concert. An all-American extravaganza opens the season, with masterpieces that defined the American sound: Gershwin’s energetic and bluesy concerto, Copland’s symphony built on his famous Fanfare for the Common Man, and Ives’ variations which capture the American spirit in all of its glorious dissonance and harmony. Strut Your Mutt
Enjoy an autumn Saturday with your pet and help raise funds for shelter animals at the Riverside Arts Market. Friends of Jacksonville Animals, a nonprofit group that works with Jacksonville Animal Care and Protective Services shelter, will have its second annual Strut Your Mutt dog walk that day. In addition to the 1-mile walk that starts at 9:30 a.m., participants will enjoy dog contests, raffles, dog massages, pet photos and dog adoptions until 2:00 p.m. For more information, visit their website.
Movies Under The Bridge- The Goonies
There is always a free movie on Saturdays under the bridge at the Riverside Arts Market. The movie this week is “The Goonies” which starts at sundown, but terrific entertainment begins one hour before the movie. Come hungry and be sure to bring the kids.
