A 20-year-old Cranston, RI women was crowned Miss USA in Las Vegas last night!! Olivia Culpo is a musician and Boston University sophomore, who spent her summers at band camp from the time she learned how to play the cello in second grade. Her parents are also musicians and her musical talent brought her to the stages of Symphony Hall in Boston and Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Culpo is a 2010 graduate of St. Mary Bay View Academy, an all-girls Catholic school in Riverside, RI. She comes from a big Italian family and aspires to be like her idol, Audrey Hepburn.
On her Twitter account she describes herself as a cellist, nerd, model, actress, movie- lover, and health freak.
She will take a year off from her studies in Boston to tackle her duties as Miss USA and prepare for the Miss Universe Pageant in December.
The Miss USA Pageant has been held annually since 1952 and this is the FIRST time a Rhode Islander has taken the crown! Congratulations Olivia! Rhode Island is very proud!
