Thursday night’s episode of American Idol kicked off with the initially weary Adam Brock ecstatic to find he is moving to the next round, as the first of ten more contestants that will be chosen. Next comes Jeremy Rosado, an easy “in” according to the judges. Shannon Macgrane also makes it through, after her moving rendition of Kelly Clarkson’s “The Trouble with Love Is,” but Scott Dangerfield is dropped from the competition quickly, as J-Lo explains to him she didn’t feel the “excitement” this year.
Although Skylar Laine’s unhappy with her performance of Bobbie Gentry’s “Fancy,” Randy breaks surprising news; she also made it. However, Jermaine Jones is a bit pitchy in his interpretation of Whitney Houston’s complex song, “I Believe In You and Me.” Seemingly against their will, judges send Jones home, but not before a dramatic group hug before he departs.
Hollie Cavanagh’s performance of Carrie Underwood’s “Change” affirmed the judges’ belief in her consistency. Now it’s between the two buddies Eben Franckewitz and David Leathers Jr.; the heightened competition calls for their separation, and it’s over-confident Leathers who’s packing his bags.
Looks like we’ll have to wait until Tuesday to hear the boys sing, followed by the girls’ performances on Wednesday. On Thursday, this list of ten will be cut in half, and the long-awaited list of American Idol’s finalists will finally be revealed. Stay tuned!
