"Good Food. Big Screens. No Brainer." That's what local television anchor for WJLA-TV (ABC) Leon Harris said when asked why he frequents Melody Tavern, Arlington’s newest hot-spot. The restaurant officially opened its doors Friday with a grand-opening celebration featuring live music from local Jazz musician Lena Seikaly.
Surrounded by approximately 1,500 residents that live nearby, it has already caught the attention of its neighbors who come to watch events on one of the flat screen TV’s located throughout the venue. Leon Harris, for instance, loves how convenient it is to get to from WJLA-TVs studio and boasts about some of his favorite menu items which include lamb tacos, chicken dumplings, and chipotle pasta.
The resto-lounge has been open since November 2011, but it wasn’t until recently that it was granted a live music permit. In addition to regular perfomances by Lena Seikaly, Melody Taverns will host renowned Jazz and R&B artist Julia Nixon on February 14th and a Mardi Gras Party with D.C.‘s own Sharon Thomas Experience on February 21st.
Co-owner Michel Daley said, “We are definitely a destination place and people are being drawn in by our excellent, reasonably-priced food. We offer plenty of free parking for our guests." The former owner of D.C.'s Zanzibar, Michel adds, "There is no other venue quite like us in this area.”
The restaurant is located at 3650 S. Glebe Road, Suite 170, Arlington, VA 22202. Telephone: 703.413.4141. www.melodytavern.com.
