The 2012 London Olympics are finally upon us! Opening Ceremonies for this year games begin on Friday, July 27th, and the games last for 17 days until Sunday, August 12th. While these elite athletes are preparing for their Olympic events, you should be preparing to cheer, cry, be inspired, feel pride in your fellow countrymen, and awe in the capabilities of the human body. The Olympics makes for dramatic television, which is why you should watch these summer games alongside others, as you will share in the trials and turmoil of these athletes! A great place to catch Olympic events and socialize is your local sports bar.
If you are from the Tri-Cities, then you should definitely come out and cheer on Richland native Hope Solo! For those that do not know her, Solo is the US women’s soccer goalkeeper, whose stardom rose after her brilliant performance in the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup and her stint on Dancing with the Stars. The US women’s Olympic soccer team and Solo are already off to a great start as they won their first game 4-2 over France on Wednesday, July 25th, in the Group G in the Group Stages! There are also other great Olympians, like Solo, who are linked to the greater Washington area. If you would like to read more about these Washington athletes, please click here.
A great place to watch your favorite Olympic events is Hot Wingz in Kennewick, which has been voted the best wings in the Tri-Cities in the 2010 and 2011 Wing Wars. So if you like wings (well, as they say, “wingz”) and a good burger, then stop by to chow down, while watching the Olympic events on one of their many tvs. The Olympics are meant to bring us together, to make the world a little smaller, which is why it is so nice to watch them among others in a more public capacity and to connect with someone new in the process!
