Calling all Foodies!
Guess what excitement was in Atlanta this Memorial weekend?
If you are on Twitter and follow anyone in the Atlanta area, you may have seen the numerous tweets circulating about some awesome new food trucks roaming around the area. These particular food trucks were not your normal every day trucks that make their way around Atlanta like Yumbii, The Pickle or Tex's Tacos. These trucks were the top three competitors from the Food Network's Great Food Truck Race!
If you are not a Food Network geek like me, I'll give you the low down on the show. It's based on a traveling competition between multiple food trucks from all over the country. The trucks travel to different cities for each episode, and each truck's team starts with the same amount of money to buy supplies to get ready to vend. Once open and selling their wares, it's a brutal competition to earn the most money. Each week, the bottom earner is booted off the show, and the rest continue. Grand prize for the winning truck at the end of the show receives $100,000!
When I saw the trucks were in town, I excitedly asked DH if we could go check them out. He agreed and I’ll admit I smiled all the way into the city closely monitoring all the crazy activity on Twitter. DH was able to navigate easily to the trucks while I determined the most convenient places to park thanks to my friend over at Atlanta 365. Thanks again, Maura! You rock!
We arrived shortly after the "Trucks are open!" tweets, but sadly the truck we parked closest to was still closed.

Production guys were milling around with assorted camera equipment and there was already a long line.

With temps being in the high 80's already and toting around 2 children, we decided to take a short walk down to the other truck that was a few blocks away.

Sadly again, long lines, hot sun and no shade.
But there were pops!

Thanks to The King of Pops for our treats while we decided to walk back again to the other food truck. Along the way we decided to duck into a side restaurant to feed the hungry littles and find some cool relief in the air conditioning.
Was a disappointed not to taste any of the food truck's offerings?
Yes.
Was I just as thrilled to see all the excitement of the event itself?
Yes.
It was a fun afternoon, and I can still live vicariously through the taste buds of my fellow foodies all over the internet via Facebook, Twitter and the many blogs attempt to read on a regular basis.
If you are interested in learning more about all the awesome food trucks competing in season 2 here, but Atlantans were lucky enough to be able to check out food from Hodge Podge from Cleveland, Ohio (their specialty: Midwestern comfort food), Roxy’s Grilled Cheese from Boston, Mass (their specialty: Gourmet grilled cheese), and The Lime Truck from Irvine, Calif (their specialty: California beach cuisine).
It was a special treat for our city and I am glad we were able to be a part of the new season!
Be sure to check out the premiere on Sunday, August 14th at 10:00 PM EST!
I know I will be watching!
Will you?
