Turkey Burger ($7.95) with a wheat bun and smoked Gouda cheese

The inspiration for this lunch came from Twitter: @jimbarbagallo said, “You really haven’t had a turkey burger until you’ve had one at fourburgers in Boston.  A great Thanksgiving Day Tease.”

I find burgers too heavy to eat in the middle of the day for lunch, so when I saw this recommendation for the turkey burger, I figured that would be great for me!

Location: FOUR burgers

Although their Boylston location is a short walk for me, it’s an even shorter walk from the Boylston T stop.  I had to fight through a throng of Emerson students just getting out of class and was wondering if the wait at FOUR burgers would be long.  I was pleasantly surprised to find no line at 11:50 and had plently of time to puruse the menu.  As their name suggests, there are four basic burgers that you can order.  Direct from their website:

  • Beer Burger: Locally-sourced, grass-fed, all-natural beef hamburger with lettuce, tomatoes and house cured pickles.
  • Black Bean Burger: Vegan, handmade, organic black bean burger served with your choice of guacamole, salsa and lettuce OR our tangy mango bbq sauce, lettuce and tomato, with mango bbq sauce, lettuce & tomato or salsa & guacamole and lettuce.
  • Turkey Burger: Hormone-free, all-natural turkey burger served with lettuce & tomato and a side of cranberry apple chutney, with lettuce & tomato and a side of cranberry chutney.
  • Salmon Burger: Wild Alaskan salmon burger served with Asian slaw and soy mayo, with sesame coleslaw and soy mayo.

After deciding on your burger you get a choice of a white or wheat bun, and any toppings, including a wide variety of cheeses, and the likes of sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions and Vermont smoked bacon.

I ordered my Turkey Burger with a wheat bun and smoked Gouda cheese. The turkey was juicy and moist, with a lot of flavor on its own.  The cranberry chutney was a very nice compliment, and I was also happy with the smoked Gouda (too hard to pass up!).  The wheat bun was light and fluffy, holding together the burger yet allowing the turkey flavors to shine.

Can’t ever decide between regular and sweet potato? No worries, FOUR burgers lets you do half and half.  Even the small portion pictured here was too much for me to finish.  The fries were piping hot when served, fried to a crisp with a nice, smooth texture underneath.  I liked that these fries were not over-salted, and found that my cranberry chutney went well with the sweet potato fries.

I was really pleased with my meal at FOUR burgers.  The service was fast, making it an ideal lunch destination.  Their menu was simple yet had so many add-on options that the combinations are endless.  Fries aside, the turkey burger was a fairly healthy option that left me satisfied and with energy to return to work for the afternoon.

FOUR burgers has two locations: 134 Boylston St (less than two minutes from Boylton T station) and at 704 Mass Ave in Cambridge (steps from the Central Square T station).  And don’t forget to say hello @fourburgers!
