Mayfair & Pine, DC's latest Top Chef alumni restaurant, got its opening party wrapped up just before the DC dead season (also known as August) commences.
Owner Emily Sprissler (a Season Two Top Chef contestant) and her chef husband Jason Cote will now have a low-stress month to iron out and perfect their first restaurant. Named for their honeymoon destination (a posh area of London), and the street they later lived on (in a posh area of San Francisco), the restaurant will actually be an affordable, family-friendly American "gastropub,"* serving a selection of savory pies, seasonal seafood, and fresh sandwiches. The children's menu is also getting lots of love from the chefs (who have a 3-year-old), and will feature fresh, high-quality ingredients. There might even be a 'family happy hour' in the offering.
But I'm most excited about the chocolate chip cookies, which they generously handed out to guests at their opening party. If the rest of the menu is as tasty, Sprissler & family will have a home in DC for a long time to come.
* Sadly, most American "gastropubs" omit the actual pub from their premises. M&P has a generous bar, but....
