The Food Network's CityEats debuted its shiny fishbowl of a food truck this week, to the great joy of sidewalk gourmands across DC.
Featured in the fishbowl was Chef Mike Isabella, who used it to bring Graffiato to the masses (and to dip his toe in DC's food truck frenzy). For a single day, he presided over a mini replica of the restaurant's kitchen (complete with a faux brick wall) on wheels, and handed out free snacks and the occasional Breville kitchen appliance. A mid-day stop at Franklin Park saw the truck swarmed by close to a thousand people eager to get a couple bites of couscous salad.
CityEats, which uses the truck to promote its online restaurant reservation service, plans to feature other DC restaurants during the rest of the year. So what's next? What tastiness from what trendy restaurant lends itself to mass distribution in small quantities? Perhaps little samples of palak chaat (crispy spinach salad) from Rasika? Old bay butter popcorn from Founding Farmers? Perhaps warm chocolate chip cookies from the newly-opened Mayfair and Pine? CityEats is mum, but one can always hope....
