The Froyo Phenomenon: Charlotte's New Sweet Treat | Food

The Froyo Phenomenon: Charlotte's New Sweet Treat
The Froyo Phenomenon: Charlotte's New Sweet Treat

We’re all looking for the next hot thing, although in this case, it’s not the “hot” thing, but the cold thing that’s caught our attention.  This summer all the rage is about frozen yogurt, or froyo, as it’s most commonly known.  This tasty treat has taken Charlotte by storm and we totally understand why.

Generally healthier than their other frozen counterparts and offering a wide range of fruity flavors and toppings, it’s no wonder this summer treat has captured our taste buds.

One of our favorite FroYo hangouts has to be Menchie’s.  Not only do they offer an eclectic variety of fruity flavors and locally grown toppings, but they also charge by weight rather than number of toppings, meaning that you can get as many or as little as you wish!  If you’re not trying the froyo du jour, then we recommend trying the pomegranate tart with almonds and strawberries.

It’s located in Kenilworth Commons, 1247 East Blvd., so pay it a visit one of these hot summer days!

If you haven’t tried Pinkberry already, it’s about time you did.  And if you have, this summer Pinkberry is offering a series of new seasonal combos centered around their strawberry froyo flavor.  Our favorite was the Strawberry Crunch, which consists of strawberry froyo, honey granola and almond flakes.  However, we encourage you to try all of the flavors!

Pinkberry has a startling 3 locations in Charlotte: 6908 Phillips Place Court C, 8128 Providence Rd 900, and 5501 Josh Birmingham Pkwy., so now you really have no excuse not to try out this tasty spot.

For a classic local hang, test out Yogurt Mountain.  This yogurt joint specializes in exotic and unusual flavors, so much so that you can get away without ordering toppings, which is not a bad thing considering you have to pay extra per topping.  We really enjoyed and recommend red velvet -- a unique but delicious invention!  But don’t stop there; Lemon Ice Box Pie and Cherry Amaretto also sound intriguing, so test them out and let us know what you think!

So stop by Yogurt Mountain at 3000 Cahaba Village Plz

So next time the kids are asking for some ice cream, opt for froyo instead so you can enjoy your dessert without any of the guilt!
