St. Louis Families: Try a Kid's Museum
St. Louis Families: Try a Kid's Museum

When you think of the word “Museum,” what comes to mind? Big boring halls with equally dismal displays? Exhibits so packed with people that you that can’t even see what they’re looking at? Stuffy patrons who spend hours discussing pieces you just don’t get?

If you’re a kid-- or happen to be a parent, aunt, uncle or grandparent… “Museum” can mean a bright, fun and hands-on learning adventures. There are children’s museums all over the place and they fantastic places to take that special (little) someone in your life. In St. Louis, check out The Children's Illustrated Art Museum

Whether your youngster is into art or archeology there are museums that not only educate kids but also give them a chance to explore and experiment.

Tips for your Children’s Museum Adventure

1.  The Fun might be “Free”: Many museums like KidsQuest in Bellevue, Washington have specific dates and times when admission is free. Take a moment to check out your local museum’s website to get the details.

2.  Pack a Snack: With all the learning that the kids will be doing they’ll need some energy. While some children’s museums don’t have a cafeteria to buy food, they often do have a place to sit and eat.

3.  Get there Early: If crowd free is your kiddo’s style, it may be worth it to get to the museum early. You’ll probably get a primo parking spot and miss standing in life for half and hour to get in.

4.  Dress in Playclothes: Many museums that are tailored to kids are also places where kids can experience things—how water works for example. This is not the day to wear that dress Grandma sent. It’s a day to play and learn… and not fret about dirty duds.
