Seattle Great Gal: Vicki Noon | Fun Stuff

Seattle Great Gal: Vicki Noon
Seattle Great Gal: Vicki Noon

She's as comfortable on the soccer field as she is on stage-- Renton's own Vicki Noon has toured the country in major musicals like Mamma Mia and Wicked. But this local celeb and althlete is a hometown girl at heart. Currently starring in the lead role as "Annie" in the Village Theatre's production of "Annie Get Your Gun," we caught up with actress to get the scoop:

GalTime: Where did you grow up?

Vicki Noon: I was born in Tucson, AZ, but both my parents were offered jobs at Boeing when I was 6 months old so we moved up to the Renton highlands area.

GalTime: You were the forward on the girl's soccer team at Issaquah's Liberty High, how did you juggle that and drama?

Vicki Noon: There was a time in my life where juggling all of my activities was a real struggle. I would have to miss practices and sometimes games to make it to rehearsals and performances. It soon became evident that the other girls on the team were not happy and that was a really hard time for me because I loved being involved in both and I was really trying to be fair. I finished playing soccer my senior year and haven’t played for years, but at the urging of my sister, Andrea, I joined a soccer league this year and it has been a blast getting to play again. My new soccer team even came to the show last Saturday night to root me on!

GalTime: After high school, how did you pursue you drama dreams?

Vicki Noon: I wound up auditioning for the National Tour of Mamma Mia and booking it at age 20. I played Sophie for a year out there. After I got off the road with them I auditioned for the musical Wicked. I moved all over the place with that company, first Chicago, then LA and San Francisco and eventually I booked the 2nd National Tour of Wicked, playing Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West.

GalTime: What drew you to playing Annie Oakley in The Village Theatre's "Annie Get Your Gun?"

Vicki Noon: Steve Tomkins, our director. I knew nothing about the show or that it was a role that would be good for me. Steve met with me for lunch when I first moved home and told me that he wanted me to play Annie Oakley. I was honored, but also terrified since I had been playing a witch for 3 years. I agreed that afternoon and I couldn’t be happier to be playing such an iconic character. She’s the coolest!

GalTime: Do you have anything in common with the character?

Vicki Noon: I’m a hopeless romantic and Annie, in the show, is as hopeless as they come. I think that’s about as far as the similarities go however. She’s rough and tumble and I’m definitely a girly girl, but I’m having a blast playing the other side.

GalTime: What's your favorite part of performing?

Vicki Noon: The relationships you form with your castmates. There’s nothing like it. I don’t know what it is, maybe it’s that were all being so vulnerable together, but everyone becomes so close. I get to look into the eyes of my friends every night onstage and play for 3 hours. It’s the best job I know.

GalTime: Is it especially meaningful to be on stage in your hometown?

Vicki Noon: Yes. I’m so happy to be able to look out into the audience and see familiar faces on a nightly basis. I know that my family is very proud and they coulndn’t be happier to have me performing back home again.

GalTime: How's your "Annie" accent? Fun? Challenging? Both?

Vicki Noon: I was definitely worried about it in the beginning, but I somehow just snapped into it. It became very easy after awhile.

GalTime: Can you share some of your favorite local haunts with us?

Vicki Noon's Seattle and Eastside

Favorite Restaurant – Vince's is my favorite pizza by far!

Favorite Coffee Shop – There’s a drive thru Starbucks in the highlands that I pass on my way to work. I know it’s a chain, but it’s DRIVE-THRU COFFEE!!!

Favorite place to go shopping – I really miss the Loehmanns in Factoria, but if I’m being honest, you could probably find me at Target any night of the week. I love that place!

Best place to find something special – Gilman Village in Issaquah. It’s full of beautiful little boutiques that are locally owned. It’s a great place to find gifts.

Fun place to take out of town guests to – The little donut shop in Pike Place Market….the market is great and all, but those donuts, that’s really why I’m there.
