FlingGirlLA, an online graphic novel created by Dina Gachman (writer) and Amy Saaed (illustrator) came out in December of last year. Each month, a new issue arrives in people’s inboxes as long as they subscribe to the site.
The idea of FlingGirlLA came when Dina Gachman decided to partake in NaNaWriMo, where in November, writers work to complete a novel in 30 days. On November 30th, 2010, FlingGirlLA, the novel was born.
The discussion then turned into an online graphic novel idea when Dina and Amy met in a coffee shop to discuss cover art for the novel, which then led to taking FlingGirlLA a step further by introducing it to the online world.
FlingGirlLA was inspired by Dina and her girlfriends going out and the sharing of horrendous dating stories found within Los Angeles. Dina and Amy thought it was just what the world needed, a graphic novel to share in the dating horrors that truly go on in LA.
The website, www.flinggirlla.com has a wealth of information from what the graphic novel is about, to an introduction to all the characters involved. The website also has a feature entitled, “Take 10.” Here, you can find lists of 10 related to dating, relationships, and everything in between.
FlingGirlLA isn’t anti-men, they want men to be involved in their website, and also in their graphic novel. In the Take 10 feature, there is a man that writes, and shares his insights into the dating world. It’s truly open to everyone.
