Soon school will be out for the summer, flip flops will be the shoe of choice, and weekends will be spent enjoying cookouts, pool parties, or beach days. Yes; summer is here and it will all be kicked off with Memorial Day weekend (5/25 -5/28). Living in Boston we are lucky enough to have a lot of Memorial Day activities that are fun for all ages:
Faneuil Hall – Street Performer Festival
This free festival features everything: mimes, comedians, musicians, clowns, magicians, and much more! Performances scheduled hourly throughout the area from May 26th until May 31st, from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm. You can find details at Faneuil Hall Marketplace.
Museum of Fine Arts Open House
The MFA will host this annual open house on Monday May 28 from 10am to 4:45pm. Visitors will receive free general admission to the museum as well as family art-making activities, and tours. For additional information please visit mfa.org .
Massachusetts Military Heroes Garden of Flags
The Massachusetts Military Heroes organization will be planting a Garden of Flags. This 33,000 flag display will be in front of the Soldiers and Sailors Monument on Boston Common. Every year the Massachusetts Military Heroes plant this “garden” to commemorate the Massachusetts service members who have given their lives to defend the United States. The flags will be in placed from Thursday, May 24 through sundown on Monday, May 28.
Memorial Day Service
on Saturday May 26, at 11am Veterans Memorial Park (also known as Sergeant Charles Andrew MacGillivary Memorial) will host a Memorial Day service. This tranquil green setting is also host to monuments commemorating those who fought in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War.
Weather you will be taking in some street performers or cooking out with friends the important thing is to remember why we have this long weekend. Be sure to take some time and pause for a minute in memory of those men and women who bravely fought, and continue to fight, for our country.
