Summer is a time when sitting on a nice beach and relaxing with family and friends is the norm. One of my most favorite things about Summer is the fact that it just seems so carefree and calming. It is a time to forget about all your troubles, and let yourself enjoy all the fun activities that summertime allows us to have. Barbeques are popular, going to the beach, eating plenty of ice cream… and most of all, taking time to relax and take a much deserved, and I’m sure much needed, break from our hectic lives. Hopefully you are able to get some time off from work, and can enjoy the beautiful Summer weather and all the wonderful things that these next few months have to offer.
That being said, the beach is a great place to spend a perfect warm and sunny day. Going for a swim, running your feet through the warm sand… But another really great thing about summer is that you actually have time to open up a great book! During the year it is hard to get into a good book and actually have time to finish it. With busy schedules and never ending work days it seems almost impossible to sit down and actually have time to enjoy a good book. So, summer is the perfect time to open that book you’ve always wanted to read. It could be any type of book, anything that suits your interests. It is always nice to open a brand new book and start really getting into the story and let yourself drift away from reality word by word.
This Summer, take some time when you’re sitting and relaxing on the beach (or even on your back deck at home!) and open up a book. It allows you to get away for a while, and forget about all the things that are stressing you out in your life. You deserve a break; some fun, some mystery, some excitement. Any kind of book will do. A book can have you feeling plenty of emotions or take you anywhere you would like to go. It puts you in another person’s shoes and teaches you lessons and morals that may not have been so obvious to you before. Reading is a great way to take advantage of what Summer is really all about; relaxing.
So, if you don’t have any books you are dying to read right now, here’s a little twist on a summer reading list that I would like to suggest…
Here is a recent list of some best selling books around Boston, courtesy of The Boston Globe. See what people in and around Boston are reading! Titles include the still popular Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins, Bring up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel, Home by Toni Morison and Bossypants by Tina Fey. Take a look for yourself!
Also, check out the latest books from these Boston area authors: Tom Perrotta – The Leftovers, Robert Booth – Death of an Empire: The Rise and Murderous Fall of Salem, America’s Richest City, Alice Hoffman – The Dovekeepers , Barbara Delinsky - Escape, and Erin Morgenstern – The Night Circus.
So, allow yourself to drift away from reality and take that much deserved break that you have been waiting for! Take advantage of Summer, and enjoy!
