How to Donate Hair to Locks of Love

Locks of Love gives disadvantaged children under 21 confidence and a sense of normalcy by providing them with hair pieces for free. Children may have lost their hair for any reason, though most of the children who benefit from Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition, alopecia areata. This condition has no known cause or cure. When children lose their hair it can be devastating, and Locks of Love gives them a chance to help return their world back to normal.

Locks of Love is a non-profit public organization that helps children under 21 in the United States and Canada receive hand made hair prosthetics from donated hair. Thousands of people donate their hair each year for this very worthy cause. Here's how you can help:

It is recommended you go to a salon, but anyone can cut your hair if you follow the guidelines set forth by Locks of Love. Hair that has been permed or colored is acceptable, but bleached hair is not. Gray hair is accepted. Hair that has been dreaded can not be used. Only hair that is in a ponytail or braid can be accepted. If you plan on shaving off your hair, divide it up into sections and use ponytail elastics before you cut it off. Hair must be at least 10 inches to be accepted. You can have layered hair as long as the shortest layer is the required 10 inches. Only real human hair is accepted.

Place the ponytail of hair into a padded envelope to be mailed. If you want confirmation, you can go to the Locks of Love website and download the form to send with your hair. Mail the hair to Locks of Love, 234 Southern Blvd., West Palm Beach, FL 33405-2701 If you don't have hair long enough to donate, you can make a cash donation. You can go to the website to make a cash donation.

If you want to grow your hair out and donate it, ask your stylist for details. She will know how to cut your hair so that it is useful to Locks of Love to make hair prosthetics for children who will be thrilled to be on the receiving end. Help a deserving child take the first step to self confidence and a more normal life, donate your hair to Locks of Love.
