When I'm in need of a little break, I often opt for a "staycation". They don't require much planning ... just an overnight bag. Fortunately there are no shortage of lovely resort getaways right here in our own backyard!
Right now, many hotels are offering summer specials and seasonally themed events. The Waldorf Astoria Orlando is hosting "Enchanted Evenings" which make a stay there during the summer even more magical.
The Enchanted Evenings Schedule
The fun starts on Fridays and runs through the weekend. Expect a fun filled line-up that appeals to kids and adults. Events include...

Decorate Your Wish Lantern. Decorate a lantern and set it afloat at the pool at dusk. Half of the proceeds from lanterns purchased are donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Weird Science Ice Cream Social. Chef's put some science and liquid nitrogen (which is more than 300 degrees below zero!) to use to make tasty ice cream.

Horse & Carriage Rides. A lantern-lit horse-drawn carriage takes you around the beautiful Bonnet Creek Resort. You'll be served champagne and strawberries - there are cookies for the kiddos.

Family S'mores. Buy a s'mores pack and make your own dessert by the fire at the pool.

Spa Happy Hour. Make a visit to the Waldorf Astoria Spa by Guerlain even better with champagne and chocolate dipped strawberries in the evening.

Royal Tea. Enjoy tea sandwiches, house-made pastries and hot tea while listening to live piano music.

Mojito Madness at Peacock Alley. Bartenders serve up their "mad" mojito concoctions and, I assure you, they are delicious! Drinks include the Mojito Sangria made with a white wine, the Cocojito made with Malibu Rum and Coco Lopez, the orange juice flavored Sunshine Mojito, the English Mojito made with gin and the Citrus Mojito with Finlandia Grapefruit Vodka.

If you're traveling with children, you can sign them up for the WA Kids Club "Astoria After Dark" Kids Night Out. Kids are served dinner and dessert and kept busy with fun activities giving you a chance for a grown-up night out.
The Accommodations
The Waldorf Astoria Orlando is a luxury resort that is inside the Walt Disney World property.
Rooms range from a "Deluxe Room" to a "Deluxe Suite" that includes a balcony. Luxury and one-bedroom suites are also available. There are also two Presidential Suites if that's within your budget.
Depending on your room location, you may be able to see the Epcot fireworks from your window.
The Dining
There are several dining (and drinking) options on property.

Drinks and small plates are served at Peacock Alley.

The Bull & Bear Steakhouse may serve a 36 ounce "Tomahawk" steak, but the menu is more than just steak. It includes plenty of other delectable options.

Oscar's is a casual, American brassierie. This is the spot for weekend brunch. The food served at the buffet is seemingly endless and includes crepes, omelets and a juice bar.

Aquamarine serves salads, wraps, flatbreads, burgers and much more poolside. Be sure to try some of the frozen beverages like the Mint Julep and Strawberry Mango Rita. (photos below)

Need more options? There's also Sir Harry's Lounge and The Clubhouse located on the 19th hole. Or head next door to the Hilton Bonnet Creek which also has a bunch of dining options. The hotels are connected by an indoor walkway so you don't have to brave the Florida heat to get there.
Other Details
If you enjoy golfing, the resort is situated alongside an 18-hole championship golf course. Golf Clinics and Golf Getaway packages are available.
The Waldorf Astoria is next to the Hilton Bonnet Creek. You can walk next door to access the restaurants at the Hilton or to use the pool which has a lazy river (pictured below). The Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek has a summer event of its own called "Summer Blast" with events like pool parties, duck races, dive-in movies and much more.
Both resorts are situated inside Walt Disney World. Complimentary transportation is provided from the resorts to the Disney theme parks and Downtown Disney.
