The calendar has turned another month of summer closer to fall, and you still have not taken a vacation. You’ve looked at airline fares and the cost of a rental car, a hotel and the stress of a whole new place might be enough to make you just cuddle up and watch reruns of Sex and the City instead. PUT YOUR REMOTE DOWN! Have you thought of taking a little “stay-cation” in your own state? Why not? We live in one of the most diverse and beautiful states in the whole US and the chance to get away from the traffic and office drama is even more of a reason. I present to you: Bed and Breakfast Getaways. Never been to a B&B? Well, start packing for an unforgettable trip and feel free to keep your passport in the drawer. But do pack your conversation skills because these places are friendly!
A Bed and Breakfast is basically your grandmother’s house with less dust, a cozy feel and no fear of catching a sight of grandpa’s teeth by the sink (you have your own bathroom in most places!) And of course, breakfast every morning with other guests. It’s a perfect opportunity to get away with a loved one or even a close friend, get to know other travelers (and steal their ideas on what to do around town) and relax. Most B&Bs are homes that have been converted into a quiet place for guests to stay, but also enjoy the company of the host family and other guests. Breakfast is made at a set time in the morning when all guests gather to have friendly conversations, drink coffee and enjoy a homemade breakfast. When you are done you can leave your dishes and be on your way. You can come and go as you please and while there may be some house rules, like no shoes inside or quiet hours, most B&Bs offer a sense of home away from home that a hotel just cannot provide.
When thinking of where to stay, you can either first pick your destination and then look for a B&B in the area, or search for a perfect Bed and Breakfast first and explore the new location. B&BFinder.com is a wonderful website! You can search by region of each state or even in a foreign country. Be sure to check and compare amenities and sights nearby that appeal to you. Another helpful place to look is your city of choice’s Chamber of Commerce websites. They should have lodging information to help in making your search easy.
Below are some favorite Bed and Breakfasts in our beautiful state. While some may require some driving, you will love exploring our state while you travel! Another great plus is bragging about Washington to guests at the B&B who are most likely from out of state. Enjoy!
