August…already? Boat Races are over and with the Benton Franklin County Fair just around the corner, the summer is quickly coming to an end. If you haven’t noticed, Target has their school supplies out already. Think it’s too late to take one last vacation? Think again! Instead, think “staycation” in our own perfect state of Washington. The best option right now is to find a bed and breakfast in a new town and just relax for a few days. With B&Bs so close and in such amazing places, finding a dog/baby/house sitter will not be difficult because you’re not going that far. But while you might be staying close to home, a B&B will take your mind far away.
If you’ve never been to a B&B, you’re in for a treat, but expect things to be a bit different than your usual hotel. Most Bed and Breakfasts have private rooms with private bathrooms for each guest, but you all stay in the same house and share common areas. Breakfast is made at a set time in the morning when all guests gather to have friendly conversations, drink coffee and enjoy a homemade breakfast. When you are done you can leave your dishes and be on your way. You can come and go as you please and while there may be some house rules, like no shoes inside or quiet hours, most B&Bs offer a sense of home away from home that a hotel just cannot provide.
Now you know you want to go, but you don’t know where. You can either pick a town you’ve never been to and then find a bed and breakfast, or find the B&B first and just explore the town it is in. B&BFinder.com is a wonderful website to use. You can search by region of each state or even in a foreign country. Be sure to check and compare amenities and sights nearby that appeal to you. Another helpful place to look is your city of choice’s Chamber of Commerce websites. They should have lodging information to help in making your search easy.
Below are some favorite Bed and Breakfasts in our beautiful state. While some may require some driving, you will love exploring our state while you travel! Another great plus is bragging about Washington to guests at the B&B who are most likely from out of state. Enjoy!
