What to Wear on a Tropical Cruise | Great Escapes

What to Wear on a Tropical Cruise
What to Wear on a Tropical Cruise

You love boats, you love beaches…why not combine the two on a fabulous multi-day cruise?

If you love to explore, party and, in between, sneak some moments of R-and-R, then a tropical cruise is right up your alley.  An extended stay on a virtually moving hotel with port-side excursions every other day is a great way to pack in a lot of vacay for a just a little.  With so much to do, though, packing can be a challenge!

The first thing you should do is look at your itinerary.  What activities will you be participating in during your trip?  Consider dinners, formal parties, what you will do once you dock (i.e. shopping, touring, specific excursions like hiking or zip-lining), and enough outfits for just chilling and hanging out.  Overpacking sometimes happens when travelers forget that they will have moments of just hanging out in a bathing suit and cover-up all day.

The second thing you should do is check out our posts on sticking to a color palette and how to pack lightly so you can be as efficient as possible while planning your trip wardrobe!

My Stylist Packing List

I always love to start with the dinners!  It’s a great time to celebrate happy times with loved ones and also to make new friends (many cruises will pre-assign your group to a table with fellow cruisers if you cannot fill up a table).  Let your fun and chic side shine from the inside out.  A one-shoulder dress with glam heels or a chic top with wide-leg pants and heeled sandals.

If you have enough time, you will likely (okay, DEFINITELY) squeeze in a day of shopping and touring at one of the historic stops on your route.  Consider dusty roads, cobblestoned or brick paths, steps and just lots of walking for this day.  A pair of walking shorts, simple tank or fitted tee and scarf (great, too, for chic-ly wiping away sweat :-)   ) and comfortable sneakers work great.  You can also don a fun sundress in a bright color to make those pictures pop paired with comfortable, broken-in flat sandals in a metallic like bronze or pewter.  Don’t forget your over-sized crossbody bag to stash your finds!

Why stop with your stylish efforts poolside?  If you plan to chill, look great in a fabulous coverup.  A loose top and mini skirt combo or cutoffs look effortless but put together while a loose tunic is alluring and light.
