Have you been wanting to go on a hike in the LA area, but you have no idea where to begin? Well, I've discovered a few spots around the city that are truly worth the trek, and the hike to make your workout great.
HIKING LOCATIONS THROUGHOUT THE LA AREA:
1) Malibu Creek State Park
Making the trek up to Malibu is worth it, bring a lunch for after the hike and just sit down in the park. There are a variety of trails for all hiking levels, and the views truly make up for the workout you will embark upon with your hike. Just make sure to bring plenty of water and great hiking shoes, and you won't be disappointed. Parking to get into the Malibu Creek State Park is 12 dollars for the day, however, there is plenty of parking on the streets outside of the park that costs nothing. You may have to walk a bit, but the paying nothing part more than makes up for it.
2) Eaton Canyon
Heading up to Pasadena to Eaton Canyon is a favorite hiking spot for many in the LA area. This area has a variety of hiking trails, but the most popular trail is the one that leads you to a waterfall at the end of your trek. What is more rewarding then running into a waterfall, especially in LA? You will truly feel you're out in nature with this trek.
3) Rancho Palos Verdes
Rancho Palos Verdes is a beautiful area located on the hillside of the South Bay coast. A very beautiful area with millionaire houses located on the upside of oceanside cliffs. This area has a variety of hiking trails heading down to the ocean. When you get to the ocean, the beaches are filled with rocks and spectacular views. Pick up some of those rocks to skip, look into the tidal pools to see what you can find, or just take in the view of the hillside and the ocean. On clear days you can see Catalina Island across the way. These trails are for all levels and pretty easy to trek upon.
4) Topanga Canyon
Drive up the coast to Pacific Palisades to Topango Canyon state park. This area located in the Santa Monica mountains has a variety of hiking trails for all hiking levels. A beginner trail to a more intermediate trail. There are different entry points throughout the park. You will truly feel like you're one with nature by the end of your hike.
5) Mt. Hollywood
Make your trek to the area of Griffith Park and begin your trek to the Hollywood sign. Although when you get to the top you will find that the sign is surrounded by a gated fence, and that is as close as you'll get to the Hollywood sign. However, look out from the sign and you will love the view of the city from atop. This trek can be easy to difficult depending on your starting point. If you start on the bottom and work your way up to the sign it'll make for a great workout. It's about 4 miles round trip, but if you start from Griffith Observatory it'll be an easier trek towards the sign. It's a gorgeous area with some amazing views of the city.
