Four Florida cities make the "Top 20 Sickest Cities" list. Yes, another list that we definitely don't want to be on.
The Daily Beast looked at various data from several cities to compile its list. It looked at things like cases of reported flu, flu deaths, number of vaccinations given and Google trends. It found:
-
Flu usually starts in Florida & Texas
-
Flu typically travels up the Southern coast then heads to the Midwest and out to the Northeast and from there gets to the West Coast
-
Weather isn't neccessarily an indicator of where the flu strikes
-
Florida has a statewide vaccination coverage of 64.3%
Florida has four cities on the sick list:
#2 Tampa
#5 Jacksonville
#6 Miami
#16 Orlando
Flu season usually runs from October through May. There are still flu shots available. This year's flu shot also protects against H1N1. The U.S. Department of Health and Human website offers information about the flu including a flu shot finder.
