It's Spa Week! To celebrate, book a massage or facial, or go hit the pilates or yoga studio — at a discount, for this week only.

Spa Week's 16th biannual celebration kicks off today and lasts through April 22nd with all kinds of spas — day, medical and resort —  as well as yoga and Pilates studios, fitness centers and other health and wellness centers offering discounts. The most common discount, according to Spa Week, is up to three signature treatments at a discount of $50 each. At spas themselves, those can be anything from Thai massages and accupressure to facials and weight-loss treatments. The goal, according to Spa Week, is to educate spa-goers "on how to incorporate specific treatments into their lifelong health regiments."

To book a treatment at the discounted rates or to learn what spas and facilities in your area are offering the discounts, go to www.spaweek.com/learn-more.

Unfortunately, no spas in Portland are listed as participating, but five in the Seattle area are: Leaf and Water Holistic Skincare, Yuan Spa, Red Door Spa in Bellevue, Penterra Spa at the Heathman and Long Life Retreat and Spa. In Portland, you might try calling your local spa and asking if they will honor the Spa Week rate.

For other "discounted" massages in Portland, check out the student massages at East West College of the Healing Arts: $25 for a 45-minute massage. The students performing the massages are in their last terms at school and are generally as good as most professional massages. The spring term began last week and they accept clients Monday through Thursday afternoons and evenings.
