If the weather isn’t evidence enough, it’s obvious that summer is quickly approaching. Although summer brings wonderful things like warm weather and day trips to the beach, for college students it also brings something horrific: Finals week. A week dreaded by all, in which lives become encompassed by schoolwork and the library turns into a refuge for countless meltdowns. Everyone approaches this week in different ways; some people stress eat, some cry hysterically, and some just take out their angers and frustrations on other people. Now, none of these examples are good ones. Here are a couple tips on keeping finals week as sane as you possibly can.
1. Coffee is your best friend
Get yourself hooked up to an IV of coffee and get to work. A couple extra cups are guaranteed to give you that extra spurge of energy around 3am.
2. To Do List is mandatory
Procrastination is inevitable but if you plan ahead a bit and write out a To Do list, you’ll have a good idea of everything you need to get done (even if you don’t end up actually doing it all).
3. Try to sleep
Don’t pull an all-nighter. It’s better to get even one hour of sleep then none at all, just don’t forget to set an alarm.
4. Wake up early on study days
Start the day off early! Secure a consistent seat in a quiet place like the library or a study room and get your work done early in the day so you can (hopefully) go to sleep at a reasonable time.
5. Help a friend out
Study with a friend or grab a coffee for your roommate. Let your friend vent to you about their 25 page paper or their orgo exam. Everybody needs a little help sometimes, especially during a tough week. Be that person for someone else.
