Can You Run an 8k in the MUD?
Can You Run an 8k in the MUD?

I love running, but sometimes just updating my iPod, changing my route, or entering the same neighborhood 5k is not enough. Recently my friends have been telling me about adventure races and other nontraditional races, and I am determined to try. There are so many different types of races to choose that there is sure to be one perfect for you! These runs are as various as adventures races, mud runs, color runs, foam runs, and even zombie runs!

Why run in circles on a track when you can adventure through a forest, crawl under barbed wire, and jump over fire pits? These adventure mud races are not for the faint of heart; however, many people are surprised at what they can accomplish with such a challenge. Adventure races are a series of rugged obstacle courses that bring people together as they bond in their shared experiences and a few bruises. These races are known for having a great, friendly atmosphere with festivities at the conclusion of the race to celebrate everyone’s accomplishment!

If you are in the Norfolk area, especially those who do not mind getting a little muddy, the Armed Services YMCA Mud Run is an 8k run that is held in Virginia Beach August 11th at 8 am. The race is all about physical challenges with obstacles, mud pits, and 5-foot walls, which only means a greater celebration at the finish! There is lots of festivities following the race including a jump in the Chesapeake Bay!
