Why Every Kitchen Needs a Whiteboard | Home

Why Every Kitchen Needs a Whiteboard
Why Every Kitchen Needs a Whiteboard

Lately it seems as if everybody is “going green”. But how can you go green and set reminders for yourself without jotting down ideas and reminders on sticky notes?  Using a whiteboard is a great idea to make reminders and notes for yourself, whether they be long term or just a reminder for the day.  Andrea Hurt, Chief Design Officer of Altogether Home, has shared some great tips for the uses of your kitchen whiteboard!

As a mom, white boards can be a huge help in your daily life! The whiteboard in your kitchen can be used as a task-master for your children – going over homework, brainstorming school project ideas, etc. Hurt believes they are a great way to encourage spending time with your children and also keep them occupied in an open area where she doesn’t have to fear anything getting damaged.

Whiteboards are also a very environmentally-friendly approach to jotting notes, making lists, keeping track of schedules, etc. – and with all of these great ideas for either tucking them away if you don’t like having them out or dressing them up if you do want them displayed – there’s no excuse for memo pads any more!

Concealing Whiteboards

Keeping a whiteboard tucked in to a kitchen desk is a convenient way to have it accessible, but also hidden, in the kitchen. Whiteboards are a great tool for grocery lists, managing bill payment, calendars and schedules, etc. – and all of this information is usually help within desk drawers anyway, so everything is kept in one area of the kitchen space.

If there is room in the kitchen for a pantry room or mudroom, using Velcro to hang your whiteboards is an excellent system for being able to easily access them by pulling them on and off the back of the doors. If the kitchen doesn’t have a pantry, the inside of a cabinet door will have the same effect (Andrea recommends the cabinet closest to the phone for jotting notes quickly and easily.)

Andrea also recommends wire mesh baskets as an aesthetically pleasing way to conceal white boards, but also have them handy in the kitchen for use.

Aesthetic Benefit of Whiteboards

Whiteboards can also be creative centerpieces in the kitchen by selecting the right whiteboard size for your needs, and then taking it to a craft store or a local framer and having it framed. By adding a frame that coincides with your kitchen design and color scheme, you can dress the whiteboard up so that it actually looks nice displayed out in the open. And there is no better way to write a quick “Have a great day!” note to your hubby or kids on the way out the door where they will see it!

Use whiteboard decals to dress up a whiteboard when keeping it out in the open! There are tons of patters, colors and designs to choose from – so select the ones that best fit your kitchen color scheme and design.
