Everyone loves food. So, why not use food to decorate and create an interesting holiday table display this year? I did just that for the upcoming HGTV Christmas special “Celebrity Holiday Homes”. I transformed Brooke Burke and David Charvet’s dining room into a simple and elegant, all-white winter wonderland that is very easy and inexpensive to recreate. First, I covered the dining table with a plain white tablecloth. (The odds are you already have a white tablecloth in your home.) Then I found several tall clear glass vases and some clear glass cookie jars with lids in various sizes. You could also use clear glass serving bowls or dishes for a similar effect. These types of jars are also readily available for sale at many retail stores like Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel. I finished off the jars by adding white and silver ribbon bows to the lids to enhance the holiday effect. I mixed the clear glass with white ceramic cake stands to create a tiered effect. The most fun was coming up with beautiful and delicious white foods to decorate. I found white chocolate covered strawberries at Pro Flowers to fill a small jar. At the grocery store, I bought marshmallows, popcorn and malted milk balls to fill the tall glass jars. And I made vanilla cupcakes with white vanilla icing and white sugar cookies with white icing to cover the cake stands. The beauty of decorating with food is, it's welcoming, inviting and encourages everyone to snack on your food. Instead of spending money on flowers or table accessories, this year – decorate with food!
