Serve It Up: Decorating With Trays in Your Home

When it comes to decorating your home, I'm all for adding elementes that add both style AND function to your spaces.  You may think serving trays are for just that---serving---but trays are a chic addition to your home decor. Here's how you can use them to dress up everything from your coffee table to your bathroom counter!

In your bedroom:  I have a white serving tray from West Elm that I keep on the dresser in my bedroom.  It hold things like perfume bottles, jewelry and accessories.  It's a fun way to display your favorite and most-worn items while keeping them organized and easy to access.

In your bathroom:  If you have a double-sink, a great way to dress up the area while keeping function in mind is to use a serving tray to hold glass canisters with everything you need---from q-tips to cotton swabs.  You can also keep perfume bottles on your bathroom tray to add a feminine touch or add a piece of coral for a beach-y look.

In your living room:  Give your coffee table a makeover with a tray that adds a decorative touch to a flat, boring surface.  Our coffee table tray features an orchid plant and two candleholders. We chose a mirrored tray for our living room table to give it an "old Hollywood" feel.

In your dining room:  Trays can make for great tablescapes and place setting accents.  One of my favorite ways to use trays in the dining room is to set your plates directly into trays (smaller, square trays do the trick!) This adds a fun dimension to your table and is a simple way to add some depth for people who like a more modern look with clean lines.

In your guest bedroom:  If your guest room has a night stand that's a little more "blah" than cute, spruce it up by adding a tray and stacking some books on top. Add some fresh flowers, and your guests will feel right at home!
