Does your husband white knuckle the dashboard when you get behind the wheel? A new British poll says a third of men are afraid of their significant other's driving. And they had a whole slew of complaints to back up their fears.
TOP TEN COMPLAINTS ABOUT WOMEN'S DRIVING
-
Lack of concentration
-
Braking too late
-
Flicking the accelerator
-
Not avoiding rumble strips
-
Getting too close to other cars
-
Braking too hard
-
Fiddling with the stereo
-
Failure to indicate
-
Going too fast
-
Sticking in the middle lane
In addition to the one-third of men living in fear of the passenger seat, one-fifth said they'd literally grip the seat cushion due to their anxiety. (Fraidy cats!) And, of course, a large majority boasted the superiority of their own driving prowess over their spouse's.

Of course this is no university study--it's based on a survey of three thousand men at OnePoll.com, so consider the source. And the question remains--does this mean the stereotype of the bad female driver has some legitimacy? Or is this simply a case of men being reluctant to lose the control of being behind the wheel? A better study might have asked if they felt similarly scared when they sat shotgun with one of their male buddies in the driver's seat.
I'll tell you this: I don't need a poll to tell me there are some male drivers out there who would scare the crap out of me, were I get in their passenger seat...
So is it a sex thing? Or a control thing?
YOUR TURN: What do you think of the poll? Is there any legitimacy to judging how people drive by gender? Do you have any good stories of driving with your partner/spouse? We want to hear from you!
