How to Show Love When Your Honey's On the Road A Lot
How to Show Love When Your Honey's On the Road A Lot

Book signings, conferences, workshops and panels--as a teen book author I'm constantly asked to make appearances all over the country. And while in some ways, it's a dream come true--getting the chance to share my work with others--after a while, all those weekends away can start becoming a drag.

Luckily I have the full support of my husband. While he can't drop everything to come along, he's always working behind the scenes to make my travel easier. From car rides to the airport to a piping hot home cooked meal upon my return, it's his unwavering support that makes the trip worth taking--and coming home oh-so-sweet.

So what are some of the other things to do for your honey if he or she travels a lot? We asked Cindy Richards, editor at TravelingMom.com who blogs about family vacations as TravelingMom with Teens in the Blogger network.

  1. Keep domestic life in order (keep the house straightened up, make sure there's milk in the fridge).  Your spouse will be tired from traveling.  The last thing they need to worry about is dust and milk.
  2. Set up a video chat with you and the kids. It's the next best thing to being there!
  3. Don't complain so much. Your spouse knows you're doing all your work and theirs too. Don't make them feel guilty about it. They have enough self inflicted guilt!
  4. Give them a ride. It's always nice to have a personal livery to and from the airport. Consider it a date.  They want to see you too.
  5. Bring flowers when you pick them up, or have them waiting at home when they arrive. Careful, they might faint.  And you?  Well let's just say the rewards could be sweet.

And don't be afraid to share the above with your husband or wife--if you're the one always going away! Sometimes they want to help--but just aren't sure what to do. Now they'll have plenty of options!
