10 Small Ways to Show Thanks To Those Who Matter Most
10 Small Ways to Show Thanks To Those Who Matter Most

In the rush of the holidays, so often we forget that our relationships might need an extra bit of nurture, especially those relationships with the men in our lives. So just in case you’ve forgotten, here are ten small ways to give thanks at Thanksgiving for those relationships that matter the most.

  1. Pat your husband on the back, and nibble his ear. Tell him how wonderful he is. You’ll be surprised at how quickly he jumps to help you the next time you need him.
  2. Don’t tell; politely ask. Avoid the tendency to shoot out directives, micro-manage, or to become the self-appointed ruler of the house during the holidays.
  3. Instead of a partridge in a pear tree, write a very short love note to your husband on each of the Twelve Days leading up to Christmas. In each note, give your “true love” a gift, if nothing but the promise of a shower together or a quick massage on the back of his neck.
  4. Don’t complain this year about how much football he watches. After all, when did your complaining change anything?
  5. Be nice to his mother.
  6. Encourage and praise him every time he helps you in small ways, even if they are things he SHOULD be doing.
  7. Call the people you love and simply tell them how much they mean to you. So often we forget that the simple, direct way is the best way of all. Of course, cards or notes work too.
  8. Make sure you partner hears you telling your children what a great Dad he is, and how proud you are of him, even if he is out of work, you are in debt, or he is not all that great after all. Sometimes what men need is a woman who believes in them when they don’t believe in themselves. Of course, if he is rotten or abusive and doesn’t deserve your thanks, the most loving thing you can do for the both of you and your children is to leave him.
  9. Tell everyone you know how grateful you are for the man in your life, especially when he is listening.
  10. Be happy. That is the greatest gift of all!

Happy Thanksgiving!
