Spring is in the air -- the trees are budding and, as we say here in the South, “ the sap’s risin.” For most of us, that means a renewed sense of hope and energy. It feels so good to get out in the sunshine, especially after a long winter of nothing but grim news about the economy and bad weather--no matter where you live. I don’t know about you, but I itch to get out and weed the flower garden, and just today cleaned out my closets and sent all my tired old clothes to Goodwill. Now THAT was good medicine!
But sometimes, I get a little overwhelmed by all that needs to be done every spring. Not only do I have to fit back into that dreaded bathing suit, but I need to get the taxes done, clean up the yard, and put a fresh coat of paint on the garden furniture. In the clear light of day, I realize how much I actually neglected the house. I notice how tired and drab everything looks, and how many cobwebs are hanging in the corners.
You know, relationships can get tired and drab, too, especially if you’ve neglected your mate or significant other during a stressful season, as most of have just survived. Now is a good time to clean the cobwebs out of your love life.
Here are some low-cost tips on how to get some light and energy flowing again!
- Don’t overdo it working outside or in the house. The last thing you need is a pulled muscle, or a sprained ankle, especially in the bedroom.
- A bit tired and achy? Trade massages, using really good massage oil.
- Make a date on Sunday afternoons to take naps together. Shut out the outside world.
- Once a week make a date to go somewhere quiet (like a park, lake, the beach, or your own backyard) to talk, cuddle, and focus on each other instead of an activity.
- Go parking somewhere on a moonlit night. After all, it worked when you were a teenager.
- Pick wild flowers and place them all over the house.
- Make a date to cook a new dish together, open a bottle of wine, and serve dessert in the bedroom.
- Feeling a bit sad and depressed? Talk to your doctor about ways to improve your mood without hurting your sex life.
- Focus on improving yourself and your love life will follow.
- Tax time is a great time to reassess your finances and get your house in order. But spring is a great time to get your spiritual house in order as well. Talk with your partner about how you both can take some of the stress out of your life, and use this time of reflection to renew your commitment to each other and to a simpler way of life.
